Australian $1 Coins2000 OlymphilexThe Royal Australian Mint attended the Olymphilex exhibition in Sydney during the Olympic Games period. A special commemorative coin was produced for this event. In addition to its unique design the coin was edge-lettered with the word ‘Sydney’. The edge-lettering machine was specially transported to the exhibition for this event.These are the only edge lettered $1 coins issued. |

This coin was designed by Wojciech Pietranik, designer of Olympic Victory Medals and the Paralympic gold, silver and bronze coins. The Royal Australian Mint in Canberra also hosted a section of the exhibition in a new gallery area prepared for this event, issuing a coin edge-lettered with the word ‘Canberra’. |
