Australian Postal Numismatic Covers

2002 50c UNC

Queen's Golden Jubilee

A mix of historic and contemporary images illustrate the Queen’s 50 years of service to the Commonwealth in this commemorative stamp and coin cover which features a commemorative 50c coin.
The coin was originally scheduled for release into circulation in late 2002 but due to a backlog of the 2001 50c pieces the decision was made not to release this as a circulating coin. As a result, this has become one of the most sought after covers with the price increasing almost 900% in its first year. At this stage there is some conjecture over the mintage figure ( There was reports of a truck accident in which a large number of these were destroyed ), either way this makes it one of the lowest mintage 50 cent pieces of the whole series and one of the lowest mintages of the whole series of Postal / Coin covers.

This elegant pack pays tribute to a special milestone, and celebrates the continuity and unique contribution by the Queen, who has reigned for the last 50 years of Australia's 101 years as a Federation.

A total of 32,105 packs consisting of a specimen quality Perth Mint 2002 50th Anniversary Of Accession 50c Coin and two commemorative stamps, one each 45c and $2.45 were jointly issued by Australia Post and the Royal Australian Mint, Canberra on 6th Febuary 2002.
The postage stamps have been cancelled with a special ink mark which reads 'First Day of Issue 6th February 2002 Elizabeth SA 5112'
