The coin was to be marketed as a single proof but due to some licensing issues with the IOOC the production of this coin was stopped , with stocks sold only through the shop at the mint leading to a very low mintage of just 2,940 coins.
This release is a commemoration of the XXV Olympiad held in Barcelona, Spain in 1992. The design by Margaret Priest is a tribute to the spirit of competition, fair play and togetherness that symbolizes the modern Olympics.

The $1 Aluminium Bronze Proof Coin is a intricately frosted Female Javelin Thrower against a mirror-finish background and will create a stunning addition to any collection and is only the second time a female has appeared on the reverse of an Australian Decimal Coin. On the obverse of the coin appears the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, by Raphael Maklouf.
