| In the early morning of 25 April 1915, the ANZACs rowed towards the shore
of the Gallipoli Peninsula in Turkey. As they reached the beach, the Turks began shooting from the
hills. The ANZACs kept on going... By that first evening 16,000 men had been landed - of those over 2000 Australians had been killed or wounded. The whole Gallipoli operation cost 28,000 Australian casualties, including over 8700 deaths. In memory of those brave men who lost their lives at Gallipoli the Royal Australian Mint has proudly minted the 2005 $1 Fine Silver Proof Coin to commemorate the 90th anniversary of the ANZACs landing on Gallipoli |

Royal Australian Mint designer, Vladimir Gottwald has created a silhouette image of an Australian bugler playing the Last Post as the sun sets over the beaches of Gallipoli. The beauty of the design lies in its simple message ‘Lest We Forget’ and is an opportunity for us to remember and honour the sacrifices of the more than 102,000 Australians who have died in wars and conflicts. |
