In celebration of the Queen's Golden Jubilee, the gold bullion half-sovereign for 2002 will bear a special commemorative reverse design. The design of a crowned shield of the Royal Arms within a wreath of laurel directly recalls the popular 'Young Head' sovereigns of Queen Victoria which were issued until her Golden Jubilee in 1887. The original design has been redrawn by Timothy Noad, a herald painter at the College of Arts.
